LEWISTON, Idaho – The construction of the new Nez Perce County Courthouse is expected to impact many activities at least through this week, from filing a police report to using public transit.
With the project back in full swing, certain city functions will be temporarily closed or changed.
This is a map from the City of Lewiston that goes over the road closures in town due to the construction, with the accompanying explanation from the City as well.
"12th Street will be fully closed from Main Street to Vern Lane (highlighted in green on the map) and partially closed to through traffic from Vern Lane to Idaho Street (highlighted in yellow on the map). F Street will be fully closed from 12th Street to the alley between City Hall and the State of Idaho office building (as highlighted in blue on the map) and partially closed to through traffic from the alley to 11th Street (as highlighted in purple on the map)," the City of Lewiston update says.
With those closures, parking is also impacted.
"There’s limited parking where folks might be used to parking to pay their bills," said City of Lewiston Public Information Officer, Carol Maurer.
There's a utility dropbox in the city entrance for use during business hours.
For after-hours drop-off, you can use the normal box, but again, you cannot park in that area of 12th St.
Handicapped parking and ADA access are south of city hall.
Right next to the utility dropbox is the 12th Street bus stop.
The City is asking folks who would normally use that stop to get on in front of the Department of Labor.
That brings an evergreen reminder about the city bus system from Maurer.
"We're a flag system so if folks aren't at a proper bus stop location and they want to take the bus they just waive their hand flag down the bus and they'll pick them up," Maurer said.
The lobby of the police department is also closed due to the construction, forcing changes to some of the LPD functions.
"We're sending folks over to the county Sheriff's Department to process fingerprinting," Maurer said.
They also can't accept in-person police reports at this time.
They are asking folks to call the non-emergency number 208-746-0171 or fill out the forms online if police reports need to be filed.
There will be more work in this area of town later in the month, and we will update you when those changes happen.
