LEWISTON, ID- The Idaho boys basketball state tournament officially kicked off on Thursday. The Lapwai Wildcats secured a dominant 89-44 win over Victory Charter. IdahoSports Player of the Game Kase Wynott scored 31 points, had eight assists, and six rebounds.
Ahlius Yearout had 17 points and five rebounds. The Wildcats shot 48 percent from the field, and scored 44 points in the paint. Up next, they take on Butte County Friday at 5 p.m.
The Potlatch Loggers also secured a first round victory in the state tournament. Jaxon Vowels was named the IdahoSports Player of the Game behind his 31 points and nine rebounds. The Loggers shot 45 percent from the field, beating Valley 54-42.
The Loggers will face the defending 1A D1 state champions Lakeside on Friday at 7 p.m.
In 1A D2, two divisional rivals went head to head. The Kendrick Tigers outlasted the Deary Mustangs 51-25. IdahoSports Player of the Game Ty Koepp led the way with 11 points, eight boards and three steals.
Deary's Tucker Ashmead had 10 points and seven rebounds. The defending 1A D2 state champions take on Garden Valley on Friday, 2 p.m. The Mustangs will face off against Watersprings Friday at 7 p.m.
