Idaho girls' basketball: Grangeville, Lapwai, Prairie, Kendrick, Deary advance

LEWISTON, ID- The Idaho girls basketball state tournament kicked off on February 15th. Grangeville, Lapwai, Prairie, Kendrick, and Deary all moved on to the second round of the state tournament.

Starting in 2A, the Grangeville Bulldogs are on a 13 game winning streak. They have four scorers that rank top 10 in the 2A classification.

The 22-2 Bulldogs beat the Kellogg wildcats in the opening round 62-43. IdahoSports Player of the Game Mattie Thacker had 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

In 1A D1, the Prairie Pirates and Lapwai wildcats both earned state tournament bids. Lapwai beat prairie 39-27 in the district championship game to earn a state bid. The Wildcats beat Valley 64-27. IdahoSports Player of the Game Qubilah Mitchell posted a double double 26 points and 10 rebounds.

The Pirates finished 11-1 in their last 12 games. They edged out Kamiah 49-46 to advance to state. They moved on today, beating out Murtaugh 66-54. The Pirates outrebounded Murtaugh 41-28, while shooting 48.2 percent from the field. IdahoSports named Lexi Schumacher player of the game after a 26 points, nine rebound performance.

The 1A D2 state tournament features both Kendrick and Deary. The Tigers punched their ticket, beating the Deary mustangs 53-45 in the district championship.

Kendrick is 20-3 on the season. They earned a number 2 seed in the tournament, and beat Leadore 57-24. Hali Anderson was named IdahoSports Player of the Game, with a double-double 19 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and six steals.

Finally, the Deary Mustangs are in the state tournament for the third consecutive year. They beat out Nezperce in the 1A D2 second place game. The Mustangs beat Mackay 54-43 today to advance. Once again, IdahoSports named another player of the game. Deary's Araya Wood scored 24 points, had four assists, and five steals.
