LEWISTON, ID- For Golden Throne week, Lewiston and Clarkston high schools have been working tirelessly to raise money for their respective charities.

ASB representatives from both schools have also spent countless hours on their school themes and spirit week.

"I'm so proud of every single kid in our class. Every single one of them is putting in 100 percent effort this week. I hadn't even planned on decorating the school, but the girls came in on their time and off day and decorated," said Lewiston ASB President Lily Samuels.

LHS is decked out in yellow and purple for spirit week, where students dressed up to a different theme each day.

ASB president Lily Samuel's chose this year's golden throne theme as minions. Students have been selling t-shirts and 10 dollar spirit packs to wear for this Friday's basketball games.

"Students are planning on what they can do, how they're going to wear their spirit packs. We have two different colored shirts this year, which I think is the first time we've ever done that."

There are also different fundraising incentives, including the rock, paper, scissors $1 for 2 necklaces, the golden throne coin drive, and the women's empowerment club bake sale.

All of the money raised will go towards their three local charities.

"50 percent of the proceedings is going to a Clarkston family dealing with cancer right now. 25 percent will go to our Lewiston hub, which gives back to local families, and gives you gas to take your kids to school. The last one is the Willow Center for grieving children."

Across the river, Clarkston high school's theme is bantam raceway, inspired by the movie cars. They decorated the school with race flags, balloons, and a trophy podium featuring cars characters.

"We like how excited they are about our spirit items. Our flags, our glasses, and our shirts. They turned out really good, and I'm excited that the students have bought in to our new way of fundraising," said ASB executive board member Ryann Combs.

Along with dressing up for spirit week, CHS students held a charity drive by. Girls basketball player and ASB board member Ryann Combs says it's not the only way students can still get involved.

"Just donating through our jars at the basketball games. If you have change in your pockets or dollars, you put it in the bucket with your class name on it and that's another way to donate money."

The golden throne isn't won in the basketball games themselves.

It will awarded based on school spirit and good sportsmanship. The Bantams have won the throne in back to back years, and they're hoping to make it a three-peat..

"We both come together to be supportive of our teams because it's a big deal, and we're also graded on our sportsmanship, and it's important that we practice good sportsmanship," Combs said.

"I think it's a very good opportunity for people to see how beneficial it is to come together as one and as a valley, that we can help so many people."
