COLFAX, WA- Colfax junior Brynn McGuahy carried her team on her back in the district tournament. She scored a team high 37 points, grabbed 24 rebounds, had six blocks and three steals.
The hard-fought 59-55 win over Davenport crowned the Bulldogs district champions.
"I knew I had to come out and score, rebound, and do the little things right for this team in order to win the game. It was a tough one, but I can't say it wasn't fun because it really was at the end," McGaughy said.
McGaughy is now focused on the state tournament. Last year, Colfax won it all. They're now looking to do the same this year.
"Although that feeling was immaculate, I want to feel it again. It's game by game, I can't look too much into the future because there's little steps that a lot of people don't necessarily see."
The lofty expectations of repeating doesn't phase the small forward. In fact, it motivates her to get that much better.
"Pressure is a privilege. Although it can be scary sometimes, I love it. I know we have a target on our back, but I know that we can win the whole thing again.
Head coach Jordan Holmes has helped her grow into the player that she is today. She's instilled wise words of wisdom that reach beyond the court.
"Basketball isn't about just winning, it's not just about getting your own stats. It's about being a good teammate, it's about doing all the little things that will help you out in life.
The guard now has an important life decision to make. She's already been recruited by over 40 division one basketball schools. She's narrowed it down to just 12 programs.
"I think what grabbed their attention was you can play everywhere. You can shoot the three, you can drive, and post up. I think they like my offensive ability for sure, and I've talked to many coaches about it."
Mentally, it was challenging to manage the attention. At the same time, she's embraced it.
"Just having coaches that believe in me push me harder, because there's been coaches that have believed in me before I even believed in myself."
