LEWISTON, ID- Lewiston swimmer Maggie Carr competed at the state swimming championships in Boise last week.

It was her second consecutive year that she qualified for state, and she came back with a few medals under her belt.

"It's just a great experience going down. The team was amazing, I love the environment that our team provides, everyone is just super supportive, and cheers each other on. It's just a lot of fun," Carr said.

The senior competed and finished 6th in the 100-meter fly and 7th in the 200 IM.

She also finished eighth in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay.

"I like the IM because it mixes up all the strokes, so you swim 50 of each stroke. It's really fun because I get bored if I swim one stroke for too long, so I kinda mix up the muscles you're working."

"Our relays, it's just fun to watch your team and cheer them on as you're going. I was the first one in both of our relays, I was the first leg, so to watch our team do well was super exciting."

Aside from the two to three-hour-long practices leading up to State, carr touches on how much mental preparation also goes into her performances.

"Lots of nerves, for sure. I get really nervous, but I think this time I forced myself to be more mentally prepared than I ever have been. I felt more confident going into it. I was ready for the races. I knew I had done everything in my ability to prepare for it mentally and physically," Carr said.

Of course, her success wouldn't have happened without the encouragement from her coaches.

"The coaches don't get the credit they deserve. our coaches are amazing and super supportive, both my high school and club coaches. I love them both, and our team is just great."
