ASOTIN, WA- The 8-2 Asotin panthers are heading to the Washington state football playoffs, hosting river view this Friday.
Asotin running back Peter Eggleston and the rest of the team have a certain tradition to celebrate making it to the postseason.
"We have a tradition to bleach our hair, so last night we went to a swiss salon and they donated the bleach for us to get our hair bleached. it's something the team does, and it's great to do since it's been five years that we've been able to do it last," Eggleston said.
After a 2-7 campaign last year, the long awaited moment is back this season. Their success this year wouldn't have been possible without every playmaker.
"We don't want to be individuals on the team, we want to play as a whole team. that really benefits us, if somebody makes a mistake we just tell them to forget about it and don't blame them for what they do."
The running back also felt he made some major individual strides from last year to this year.
"This year I've followed my blocks better, and without the (o) line, I wouldn't be here today. so they're the real reason, and me just following them, and doing what I'm supposed to have helped us."
The Panthers are gearing up for their first playoff game of Eggleston's career. He's grateful for the opportunity to continue playing the game he loves.
"For me, football is my favorite sport to play. I'm super excited and glad I'll be able to play. I just think we can't take breaks, or a few quarters or play off. as we're getting into these higher end teams, they're not necessarily making mistakes."
As a multi-sport athlete, the junior has always been drawn to football. He looks up to a certain Seattle Seahawks running back.
"I just loved watching Marshawn Lynch, and Lawrence Taylor, the running back and linebacker duo. they just always seemed to be getting around the ball a lot making plays. I grew up with five older siblings, so it's always just been a contact sport for me growing up."
