An attorney for Marshawn Lynch entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of the retired NFL star for charges stemming from an arrest in Las Vegas for alleged impaired driving.

Lynch himself did not appear for Monday's hearing at Las Vegas Municipal Court on charges stemming from an arrest in August last year.

According to an arrest report, Las Vegas police officers found Lynch asleep behind the wheel with the driver's seat leaning back and the door open.

He stated that he had not been drinking and does not do drugs, but that he did steal the car, the report alleged.

Judge Cedric Kerns agreed to a request from Richard Schonfeld, Lynch's attorney, to schedule a trial for May 24. Schonfeld also said he expects to file a motion to suppress a search of the car's navigation system.

A pre-trial court date is scheduled for March 13.

Lynch played in the NFL for 12 seasons, spending time with the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks and then-Oakland Raiders.
