A senate committee voted to move a bill forward on Friday that, if approved, will allow school district employees to conceal carry on campus.

Senator Jim Guthrie proposes RS-3160. He says, "The policy would be set by the school boards. When you think about that and the public hearings, and the local community being involved and establishing policy, I think that's certainly a good thing."

The bill requires district employees to have an enhanced carry permit and go through yearly refresher training. Senator Jim Guthrie says this will provide districts local control over the issue.

The policy goes into effect in January of 2026 if it is signed into law. It would be implemented by July of the same year.
