Singer and songwriter Eric Carmen, known for Dirty Dancing hit "Hungry Eyes" and "All by Myself," has died. He was 74.

The news of his death was announced on his official website by his wife, Amy.

"It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen," she wrote. "Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss."

She ended by quoting Carmen's song "Love Is All That Matters," saying "Love Is All That Matters...Faithful and Forever."

His cause of death was not given.

Carmen rose to fame as the frontman of the Raspberries before going on to a successful solo career in the 70s and 80s.

Another one of his famous hits was written for the "Footloose" movie soundtrack. "Almost Paradise" went on to earn Carmen a Grammy nomination when the soundtrack competed for Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture.

The songs "All by Myself," "Make Me Lose Control" and "Hungry Eyes" all went on to be in the top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100 and spent more than four months on the chart.

Celine Dion's cover of "All by Myself" gave the song a resurgence in the 1990s.

"Awful News. Eric Carmen has died," Paul Stanly of Kiss posted on X. "Although known to many for writing radio hits like “All By Myself” and others, Eric was a true rocker at heart. His voice had elements of McCartney and Steve Marriott. The Raspberries did shows with us. A killer band live & I loved their records."
